Shepherd’s Hood

A fitting motif for mountain people who spend much of their lives outdoors, nature is celebrated in the designs of flora and fauna on the panels of this hood. The heavy wool provides warmth in a harsh climate, and the embroidery is intended to offer magical protection to vulnerable parts of the body. The ram’s horn motifs, a common design element across Central Asia, are reminders of the various trade routes that connected the continent.
